Also the fact that trans Tasman air route are much cheaper than last years, combined with the favourable exchange rate as the likely stimulus for the sharp increase in arrivals.

The Aussies are coming!
New Zealand experienced a 37 per cent increase in Australians when compared with August 2008 last year. Many believe that the stimulus package put in place by the Australian government was the main reason for the increase in Australian arrivals. It was a AUS $950 payout! Without it many travellers would not have travelled overseas this year.

Tourism news
Despite the numbers of Asians coming to New Zealand have dropped a lot in the last couple of months, the Aussies are coming!! We had an increase of 9% of Australians coming to New Zealand!
When I have them on my tours they tell me that the flyght to NZ is really cheap at the moment and also the amount of advertising that the Ministery of Tourism is doing in Australia. It's huge! I guess it's working!
